Pacifica AYSO Region 157 coach Jim Allen has once again led a motley crew of under-14 boys to a Turkey Tournament victory.
San Bruno AYSO Region 249 hosted its 31st annual Turkey Tournament over the weekend. Teams from all over the Peninsula competed for titles in their various age divisions.
This year’s team, going by the festive name of Turkey Thighs, included players from Brisbane, San Bruno and Pacifica. The boys had only a few weeks to meet one another, practice and build trust and confidence. They gave up only one goal all weekend and battled three competitive teams in four total games. They earned a 1-0 win in the finale over Burlingame in the last 30 seconds of the second half. After scoring a hat trick on Sunday morning, Victor Ramirez, who happens to be the youngest player on the team, scored the winning shot in the final game that same afternoon.
Allen had the help of assistant coach Robert Choy, of San Bruno, who coordinated fields for practice and helped prepare the boys for this challenging tournament.
