I read with sorrow and disappointment the letter from the Rev. Piers Lahey indicting the Pacifica police for parking behind him. I am not sure how parking behind him is considered “pulling him over,” but, apparently it was enough to stoke the good reverend’s fertile imagination. He claims the police officer was in an “armored SUV,” which is a good trick since Pacifica has no armored SUVs. Heck, even if we wanted one, we couldn’t afford it. But the reverend’s flight of fancy doesn’t stop there. He says that the officer was “obviously wanting me to get the hell out of there,” but without actually engaging in conversation with the officer, he would have had to be a mind reader. The reverend wanted to get out and talk to the officer, but he did not, preferring instead to stoke fear of the police through the media.
Reverend, in these extremely troubling times, people look to a “peaceloving clergyman” for calm and hope, not hysteria. Please, help us heal, not hate.
