Dear editor,

Pacifica is trying to make political decisions about Recreational Vehicles.  As a long-time RV user from Arizona to Alaska, I’d like to add some facts to the discussion.

An RV can be delightful, but it is complicated.  It is both a truck and a house, with the needs of both.  Like a truck, it needs gas, oil, etc.  Like a house, it has water, sewer, and electrical systems, but it must be serviced every few days, to fill water tanks, drain sewer tanks, charge batteries, and more.

Parking RVs around town is good, as long as they can be frequently connected to water, sewer and electricity.  Plain parking spaces aren’t enough.  Proper hookups could be installed in designated parking spots, but at a cost.

Pacifica already has a nice well-run RV park in Pacifica Manor.  At minimal cost, the city could assist current RV users to park there, provided the park management agrees.

Or the city could assist a private business to build a new RV park with proper services.  It would fill a current visitor-serving need, as our current RV park is often full.  The city could even provide reduced-fee parking to selected RVs if desired.

Pacifica has some good choices.  But creating an RV parking permit system to park improperly without services will solve nothing, and make things even worse.

Dear Editor: I am a resident of San Mateo County and a parent of two elementary-age kids. I support Prop. 15 because schools in California are severely underfunded. We are ranked 41st in the nation in per-student funding, with the largest class sizes. It’s unacceptable that a child attending…

Dear editor, In last  week’s Trib a lot of ink was given to the debate over Gaspar de Portola’s statue and how it must go, in the name of social justice. I have always thought of social justice as being about equality and fairness, and I agree that there are elements of social justice involved […]
