Gerard-Pierre-Jean-Jr.-

Jan. 20, 1931 – Dec. 7, 2020

Gerard Pierre Jean Jr. (Gerry) passed away peacefully Dec. 7, 2020, at his home in Pacifica, Calif., surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Lewiston, Maine, to Gerard P. and Marguerite (Girardin) Jean. After attending St. Patrick’s Elementary School, he later went on to Lewiston High School, graduating in 1949. In 1953 he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Saint Anselm College, N.H., where he was on the dean’s list for four years. He lived and worked in New York City, where he met his soulmate, Marilyn Madri. Together they moved to California in 1969.

Gerry was employed by Zellerbach Paper, working as a senior systems and programming manager until his retirement in 1995. He was very active at St. Peter Parish in Pacifica, where he taught catechism and served as a eucharistic minister and lector. In retirement, Gerry was passionate about piano-playing, a talent which ran in his family, as both his father and father’s mother were pianists. He enjoyed woodworking projects and lovingly built many fine pieces of furniture for his and his son’s homes. He found enjoyment in pursuing genealogy and catalogued many generations of his and other family and friends’ ancestors. Grandpa created incredible memories with his beloved grandchildren (Old Bean Dominic and Sweetie Pie Gianna) in El Dorado Hills, where he often traveled to embark on secret “Grandpa” adventures. Gerry kept his youthful appearance and personality by attending daily Mass and hanging out with his buddies at Starbucks for a cup of tea and a chat.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn (Madri); his children Nancy Jean, Karen Dumont (Tom Cahoon), Denise Scammon (Tim), Lisa Jean,  Ninette Fenlason (Pete), Peter Jean (Cristina), and Tom McGarry. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He had a special bond with his grandchildren Dominic and Gianna Jean.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Connie Morin and brother Julius “Bud” Jean, by his son Thomas Jean, in-laws John and Ann Madri, brother-in-law Johnny Bob Madri Jr., and  grandson Ryan Guay.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a funeral Mass and celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date at St. Peter Catholic Church in Pacifica, Calif.
