St. Andrew Presbyterian Church recently donated $470 to the Pacifica Education Foundation to help promote learning throughout the district. This money was raised as part of a yearly gathering for Peace and Global Witness.
Members of St. Andrew wanted to recognize the work PEF does in giving Pacifica's elementary and middle school students additional educational opportunities. PEF supports programs that are often the first to be cut when budgets are squeezed.
The Pacifica School District has integrated four PEF-introduced programs into their curriculum. They are: a credentialed music teacher for third through fifth grades, a middle school marching band and orchestra program, slam poetry programs for fifth-graders to increase writing and public speaking skills as well as self-confidence, and STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and math — curriculum support for K-8 teachers to help implement the Next Generation Science Standards required statewide.
