Fire reported on Galvez Drive
Firefighters knocked down a blaze at 1131 Galvez Drive in Pacifica on Saturday morning. Five companies from the North County Fire Authority worked the fire, which was reported at 9:41 a.m.
Firefighters saw smoke and flames upon arrival and made an aggressive fight early, according to a release, until they were sure there were no occupants. No other nearby structures were damaged.
The incident remains under investigation.

Gun buyback yields hundreds
of firearms
Hundreds of people surrendered weapons on Saturday in a gun buyback program hosted by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the South San Francisco and San Bruno police departments, and Citizens for San Mateo County Gun Buyback.
A total of 392 guns were collected, according to a Sheriff’s release. That number includes seven assault weapons and 12 “ghost” guns, which are made from untraceable parts.
Those who turned in a gun received $100 or $200 for an assault weapon. Another gun buyback is being planned for later this year.

City Council
appoints 3
Pacifica City Council appointed three people to fill terms on city committees at the May 23 meeting.
Hirnan Muirragui was appointed to fill a full term on the Beautification Advisory Committee to end in 2026.
Cindy Abbott was appointed to fill a full term on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission to end in 2026.
Arlene Patton was appointed to fill a full term on the Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee.

Leone memorial event canceled
A celebration of life for Frank Nicholas Leone that had been planned for the Sanchez Art Center on June 19 has been canceled. Friends and family are invited to contact Andrew Leone for details and for a brochure remembering his father.
