Pacifica American Legion Post 238 is now accepting player sign ups, ages 19 years and younger, for the 2008 spring-summer baseball season. All home games are played at the much-improved, Oceana High School baseball field.

This is the 36th year of participation by Pacifica Legion Post 238 in the national American Legion Baseball program. The team plays 27 games in an eight-week home and away league season from May 27 through July 22nd against Post teams from San Mateo, Palo Alto, Los Altos, San Bruno, Menlo Park, Burlingame and Redwood City.

Interested players, from all Pacifica high schools and the surrounding area, especially freshman-sophomore age players interested in building their skills can contact coach Carlos Sanchez at (650) 303-5256 or Assistant Manager Tom Sullivan at (650) 359-3285 to sign up. Practices are held Tuesday and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at Oceana high school.

The Jefferson Union High School District has improved the overall quality of the Oceana field including constructing new player dugouts, renovating the base paths and leveling the playing field.

Interested players are invited meet the coaches and register in person on Tuesday, May 6 or Thursday May 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Oceana field.+

Each year nearly 100,000 young men participate in American Legion Baseball, the nation's oldest and most respected nationwide baseball program. Young men learn practical lesions in sportsmanship and citizenship. Many present and former Major League Baseball players including Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Johnny Bench and Gaylord Perry have been members of American Legion Baseball clubs as teenagers.

The Post requires the payment of a registration fee of $75 and a refundable uniform fee of $25 to participate from participating players. Players are asked to provide a copy of their birth certificate and sign a parent/guardian's consent and release form to participate.
