JERRY HILL

On Saturday afternoon, May 10, all Pacificans are invited to meet San Mateo County Supervisor Jerry Hill, who is currently running for the open 19th Assembly District seat, that is being vacated this year by Assemblyman Gene Mullin, due to term limits. The campaign event will be held at the Sanchez Concert Hall, which is located at 1220 Linda Mar Boulevard, in Pacifica. The event will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Hill is a long-term resident of San Mateo County, who lives in San Mateo, with his wife Skye. He is a business owner and licensed commercial pilot with a degree in history and political science from the University of California at Berkeley. He was elected to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in June 1998, and re-elected in March 2002 and June 2006 to represent the 2nd Supervisorial District. Jerry also served on the San Mateo City Council from 1991-1998 and as Mayor in 1994.

During his time on the Board of Supervisors, Hill has worked on a wide range of issues including transportation, healthcare, homelessness, disabilities, economic development, air quality and environmental protection. He has proven himself to be a leader who addresses issues with energy, conviction and experience, both in the County and as a member of numerous regional groups.

As part of his duties, Hill serves on a number of local and regional policy bodies including, the San Mateo County Transit District, the San Mateo Medical Center Board, the Cal Train Joint Powers Board, the Transbay Terminal Joint Powers Authority, the California State Association of Counties and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Hill was recently appointed by the Governor to serve on the California Air Resources Board that has been charged with implementing strategies to curb global warming.

His dedication to public service has earned him the endorsement of Assemblyman Gene Mullin and other leading Democratic elected officials from San Mateo County including Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Assemblyman Ira Ruskin and Assemblywoman Fiona Ma.

As a Supervisor Hill has always been an active participant in the community. A proponent of open government Jerry launched the San Mateo County Citizen's Academy, to instruct the public about the inner workings of County government. He spearheaded the implementation of uniform Customer Feedback Surveys for all County departments to assess the quality of the County's service and to establish subsequent performance measures for County services. He was involved in the development of e-government initiatives for quicker and more accessible constituent service.

Other accomplishments, of his many in office, include the initiation of the County's Vision 2010 to give residents the opportunity to define a shared vision for the future of San Mateo County; the creation and implementation of HOPE, the County's 10-year plan to end homelessness; the creation of the Utilities Sustainability Task Force; strengthening the County's smoking ordinance and most recently the planning process for universal healthcare for uninsured adults in San Mateo County.

Hill said he looks forward to meeting with as many Pacificans as he possibly can on Saturday, in order to hear what issues and concerns are held by those who live or work on the Coastside portion of the 19th Assembly District.

The Saturday afternoon event is being co-sponsored by a number of Pacificans including: Mayor Jim Vreeland, Mayor Pro Tem Julie Lancelle, Councilmember Pete DeJarnatt, Councilmember Sue Digre, John Curtis, Bob Pilgrim and Barbara Arietta.

This is a special Pacifica event, not a fundraiser. There are no donations required. Jerry Hill is coming to both inform Pacificans on what the important issues are to him and to listen to what Pacifican's have to say about what the important issues are to them.
